Not only is the Lord present in every atom of the universe, He is also

present in the heart of every living being and is also direc ng the wan-
derings of everyone. This means that the Lord helps every being to
act. It is similar to a car manufacturer who builds a machine that is ca-
pable to be driven. The manufacturer makes the car capable of being
driven by a person according to his desires and what he can afford.
Similarly, the Lord supplies a vehicle (the material body, senses, mind,

intelligence) to every living being so that he can perform the func ons
of life such as ea ng, sleeping, ma ng and defending and also, if he
wants, a ain libera on.

This is stated in the Vedas:

Kaṭha Upaniṣad (1.2.20) in this way:

aṇor aṇīyān mahato mahīyān
ātmāsya jantor nihito guhāyām
tam akratuḥ paśya vīta‐śoko
dhātuḥ prasādān mahimānam ātmanaḥ

“Both the Supersoul [Paramātmā] and the atomic soul [ jīvātmā] are
situated on the same tree of the body within the same heart of the liv-

ing being, and only one who has become free from all material desires
as well as lamenta ons can, by the grace of the Supreme, understand
the glories of the soul.”

Krishna expands as Paramatma in the heart of every living being and
thus He is smaller than the soul of the living being because He is pre-
sent as the Soul of the soul.

Each living en ty in whichever material body they may have at pre-
sent, including human beings, animals, insects, rep les, birds,
aqua cs, plants, etc., were souls originally in the spiritual world. But

somehow some living en es chose to separate themselves from Lord
Krishna due to their errant desire to dominate, exploit and enjoy ma-
terial nature independent of God. This desire was the cause of their
