A Snapshot of Events From November

Festival of Lights, Diwali Celebrations Sunday, Nov 9 @ Seattle
           Center Armory, Seattle WA
Vedic Cultural Center presented Festival of Lights showcasing the
arts and culture of India, adapted from, and closely following Diwali,
the most popular annual festival celebrated around this time in In-
dia. The indoor festival, free for the public and suitable for all ages,
attracts audiences from far and wide to converge in Seattle Center
for a memorable afternoon of joy, conviviality and cultural experi-
ences that are exuberantly Indian. There were Bhangra lessons,
classical dances in the traditions of Odissi, Bharatanatyam and Kathak, and other entertainment produced
           and presented by youth.

Festival of Lights also featured a flower mandala (rangoli) decora-
tive arrangement on the floor, henna booth, saree booth, puppetry
show and workshop for children, face painting, Indian chai corner,
and other attractions. There was delicious food from many regions
of India and tempting shopping opportunities presented by vendors.

The Festival of Lights at the Seattle Center took me back to India.
With the cultural performances, sumptuous food, traditional Indian
tea shop, rangoli with flowers, Indian shops and other fun activities,
I felt like I was in India. This is the second time I have been here
and it was an enjoyable event for the family. Durga Ganpati

The Diwali celebrations at Space Needle was an exhilarating expe-
rience for my husband and me as it has been every year. This year
was especially unique because of the venue, Sri Govardhan display
and chai stall, to name a few. It gives encouragement and pleasure
both as a participant and volunteer to see the festival improve every
year. We only wish more and more people participate to enjoy the
festivities and to share the culture. DivyaDrsti Dasi

of Srimati Tulasi Devi and Saligram (Tulasi Vi-

One must serve her with love and devotion. The day was
celebrated with great fervor and joy. HG Harivilas Prab-
