scribed by the Lord in the Bhagavad-gita, “My dear Arjuna, he who engages in 
My pure devoonal service, free from the contaminaons of fruive acvies 
and mental speculaon, he who works for Me, who makes Me the supreme 
goal of his life, and who is friendly to every living being — he certainly comes 
to Me.”(Bg 11.55)   
“Being purified by his intelligence and controlling the mind with determina-
on, giving up the objects of sense graficaon, being freed from aachment 
and hatred, one who lives in a secluded place, who eats lile, who controls his 
body, mind and power of speech, who is always in trance and who is de-
tached, free from false ego, false strength, false pride, lust, anger, and ac-
ceptance of material things, free from false proprietorship, and peaceful — 
such a person is certainly elevated to  the posion of self-realizaon.” (Bg. 
18.51-53) 
“One who is thus transcendentally situated at once realizes the Supreme 
Brahman and becomes fully joyful. He never laments or desires to have any-
thing. He is equally disposed toward every living enty. In that state he aains 
pure devoonal  service unto Me.” (Bg 18.54) 
“One can understand Me as I am, as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, 
only by devoonal service. And when one is in full consciousness of Me by 
such devoon, he can enter into the kingdom of God.” (Bg 18.55) 
We can begin to understand Krishna by studying His words in the Bhagavad-
gītā. The Personality of Godhead cannot be conceived unless one is in the 
transcendental posion free of the influence of material desires, lust and 
greed. One can be gradually elevated to the transcendental posion by en-
gagement in  devoonal acvies under the guidance of genuine spiritual 
teachers.  
Spiritual knowledge is not achieved by academic study. It is revealed to one 
who sincerely surrenders to the will of God through service and love. Lord 
Krishna says, “To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I 
give the understanding by which they can come to Me.” (Bg 10.10) The pro-
cess of spiritual revelaon begins by subming oneself to hearing from genu-
ine Vedic authories.  Lord Krishna confirms this when He says, “Just try to 
learn the truth by approaching a spiritual  master. Inquire from him submis-
sively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart 
knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.”  This is further con-
firmed in the Svetasvatara Upanisad, “One who has unflinching devoon for
