  truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me.”  (Bg 
10.12‐13) This is an epiphany or divinely inspired realizaon as a result 
of Krishna revealing Himself to His dear devotee.  Krishna confirms 
this, “To those who are constantly devoted to serving Me with love, I 
give the understanding by which they can come to Me. To show them 
special mercy, I, dwelling in their hearts, destroy with the shining lamp 
of knowledge the darkness born of ignorance. (Bg 10‐11)  Krishna re‐
veals knowledge of Himself to his genuine servant who dedicates his 
energy and  me to glorifying the Lord.  

Superficial following of religion  

The awakening of curiosity about spiritual life begins a journey of dis‐
covery. One seeks his factual origin to beer understand the real pur‐
pose of life.  
Most people, however, remain strongly aached to material pleas‐
ures. Even if they regularly aend a religious funcon, their commit‐
ment to spiritual life is at most superficial. They rely on spiritual life to 
support and sustain their material goals. These goals are a good fami‐
ly, material prosperity and happiness, peace of mind, recognion as a 
moral and religious person and maintaining hope that these desirable 
things  connue in the future aer death. Since their goals are materi‐
al, their religious involvement can remain on the level of following 
family tradion or custom and habit rather than genuine spiritual ded‐
icaon with faith to serve God.   

Birth and family lineage of Sethu Raman  

The above descripon can apply to hundreds and millions of religious‐
ly minded persons around the world. One such person was Sethu Ra‐
man. He was born on May 15th 1947 in a holy town in Tamil Nadu 
named Tiruchendur.  His parents were T.A. Narayana Iyer and Deiva‐
nai Ammal who were in the lineage of Shaivite pujaris or priestly fami‐
lies that worshipped Lord Muruga in the temple of Tiruchendur.
