  Mukesh was a Hare Krishna devotee. He was able to provide sasfac‐
tory answers to some of quesons that intrigued Narayanan. Mukesh 
became his friend and mentor. One day there was a debate about 
who is the Supreme God, Lord Shiva or Lord Krishna? Mukesh began 
to quote verses from the Bhagavad Gita which is considered the most 
important book of Vedic knowledge. Mukesh advised Narayanan to 
start reading the Bhagavad Gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhak‐
vedanta Swami Prabhupada on the internet. Mukesh showed him 
how to upload the Gita text on his computer so that Narayanan could 
read it.  
Narayanan was amazed that even though he was born in a Brahman 
family in India, his first encounter with the Gita was in the United 
States. It took almost 27 years for Narayanan to find the Bhagavad 
Gita in the USA and not  in India. He had to travel 10,000 miles away 
from his homeland to be introduced to the most important text of 
Vedic knowledge. Narayanan gradually started coming to the ISKCON 
– Vedic Cultural Center and Temple in Sammamish, Washington.  He 
aended Bhagavad gita classes given by the ISKCON temple President 
HG Harivilas das. By gradually hearing the Bhagavad gita from the 
devotees and engaging in praccal devoonal service at the temple, 
Narayanan became determined to follow the path of Bhak, the yoga 
of sincere devoon and service to Lord Krishna.  Narayanan accepted 
Lord Sri Krishna as  the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He clearly 
understood that it was because of his sincere prayers and devoon to 
Lord Shiva that he was given the opportunity to become a devotee of 
Lord Krishna. Suta Goswami states in the Srimad Bhagavatam 
(12.13.16),  
nimna‐ganaḿ yatha gańga 
devanam acyuto yatha 
vaiṣṇavanaḿ yatha śambhuḥ 
puraṇanam idam tatha
