Rath Yatra 2006 – The Festival Of India
Our Annual Rath Yatra festival will be
celebrated this year from September 2nd –
4th in Alki Beach, Seattle. Ratha Yatra, the
Festival of The Chariots, originated
thousands of years ago in Jagannatha Puri in
Orissa on the North Eastern coast of India,
where it is still observed by the entire
population. Over 5 million people attend the
event, and it is also celebrated in every
town across India. The main event is the
enthronement of three large deities –
Jagannatha (Krishna), His brother Balarama
and Their sister Subhadra – each onto Their
own wooden chariot. These three huge
chariots are then hauled by ropes held by
hundreds of Their devotees along a parade
route lined by admirers, worshippers and
spectators.
Please join us in this auspicious procession
of our deities and participate in many of
the events that is being organized. More
details on the Seattle Rath Yatra will
follow soon.

Vedic and Sunday School
We have two regular schools for the kids on every Sunday. The Vedic and
Sunday school has been going great. The children show immense enthusiasm
and are eager to learn about Krishna and work as a team in group
activities. For a detailed information on the schools, click
http://www.vedicculturalcenter.org/education.htm
If you have children aged from 3 and over, feel free to bring them from
4.30pm – 6.15 pm for the Vedic School and 6:15 - 7:30pm for the Sunday
school, or if you would like to donate any supplies or money to the
school that would be wonderful. Hare Krishna!
Each week we read a pastime of Lord Krishna in a story format and color
a corresponding picture. But the activities the children relish the most
is playing games and doing services in the temple.

VCC
Annual Summer Camp 2006
Our Annual summer camp this year which was held on July 22nd and July
23rd was a blend of fun and educative for the kids who attended it. The
response was overwhelming like last year and the children had a very
fruitful time learning about various exalted devotees of Lord Krishna,
participating in bhajans, fun games, Yoga, Rath Yatra and much more. We
would like to thank all the teachers of the Sunday School and the
student counselors who put in their efforts to make this event a grand
success.

“WORDS TO REFLECT ON”

“On Chanting” by Srila Prabhupada
Chanting the transcendental vibration Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna
Krishna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare is the
sublime method of reviving our transcendental consciousness or Krishna
consciousness. The three words namely Hare, Krishna and Rama, are the
transcendental seeds of the maha mantra. The chanting is a spiritual
call for the Lord and his internal energy to protect the conditioned
soul. This chanting is like the genuine cry of a child for its mother.
Mother Hara helps the devotee achieve the grace of the Supreme Father,
Hari or Krishna, and the Lord reveals Himself to the devotee who chants
this mantra sincerely. Therefore no other means of spiritual realization
is as effective in this age of quarrel and hypocrisy as the chanting of
the maha-mantra.
